SEO Success for Domain Owners
There is no secret to SEO success !!!
The days where changing your on-page factors could differentiate your site from the competition are basically over.
Only the sites that have the ‘trust’ of Google’s test users and the ‘popularity’ from other web site need to even worry about optimizing their pages. This applies to all of the competitive keywords which are worth ranking for in the first place.
Technical compliance with the engines will only get you so far. If you aren’t making waves on the internet by getting many links, your site is rightfully ignored. So, how to give your site the ranking it deserves?
First, you need compelling content. Content that is worth sending to someone else, content that is worth linking on your blog or social profile, content that is worth linking to from a web publication.
Now, go out and get links - NOT just to your boring, predictable, homepage. Get links directly to these articles that will mean something to the people that read it and pass it on.
Unique content is UNIQUE… in a way your homepage is not.
Your homepage probably isn’t worth a link save for the most related of sites. Don’t stop there. Add content to your site.
The next step is to get your content viewed by the right audience. Digg, Blog trackbacks, social networks - Whatever it takes.
Know your competition, and you will know how many links you need to gain.
Overall, the hard work in SEO is having a message, and being visible. The easy work is the technical aspect, which can easily be outsourced to a consultant or agency.
I would advise any domainer against farming out recurring SEO services, unless they seriously know what kind of results they will be expecting.
I have nothing against farming out for certain well-defined tasks, like content creation, or link building, but, selling the major “hand-waving” SEO ‘engagement’, is usually known as being quite a ripoff, and, the nature of unpredictable rankings means that you can’t hold your firm accountable for anything.
Any firm that guarantees rankings is tricking their client into thinking that ‘rankings’ are what they want, instead of targeted traffic volume. Only the RIGHT rankings can do that…and, there won’t be any SEO’s guaranteeing your site the RIGHT rankings. This is because there is nothing to prevent even the best SEO from being outspent. There is no guarantee against this. All you can hope for is a reliable benefit at reasonable cost.
Search engines are a popularity contest, not a science fair. Treat them like on, and you will have search engine success.
